Artist Statement

I am a self-trained, Australian Visual Artist, who lives and paints on-farm at Ilford, NSW. My work is representational, I enjoy interpreting the simple beauty of everyday items that hold meaning to me.

I love the challenge of a new painting, the time planning a work and eventually drawing it onto a canvas. The moment before I put my first brushstroke down is always full of excitement. My work is simple and uncomplicated. I am not asking the viewer to be clever, but to enjoy the simplicity of what is before them and rediscover memories triggered by everyday subjects.

I work primarily in in Oils and occasionally Pastels, Charcoal and Acrylics. Works are inspired by everyday items, found objects, family, animals and the essence of Australia and my rural background in this amazing lucky country.

Biography

My childhood began in far north Queensland, followed by several years on remote Busuanga Island in the Philippines, where my friends were my siblings and the only connection to the world was via a light aircraft to the mainland. There were no shoes, TV or phones and our education arrived courtesy of Her Majesties post in large yellow envelopes but we didn’t waste too much time on schoolwork, we had a whole island to explore.

Island life set the foundations of my imagination, my comfort in solitude and a love of drawing from as early as I can remember. After returning to Australia and leaving school, I studied Graphic Design, eventually going on to run my own design business and taking this skill through to my married life and into our family businesses.

My studio and home is on a fine wool merino farm near Mudgee with my husband and with three adult children up and away, I am full time working in my art practice. Mainly painting with oils onto canvas, I am inspired by everyday items, found objects, relics from the past and my rural background.

You can view and purchase my work through my two supporting Galleries Satch & Co Gallery in Holbrook as well as  AK Bellinger Gallery at Inverelle. You can make direct enquiries via the contact page on this website and through social media and I also welcome commissions when I can.
